After a weekend defeat to Quinnipiac, the Fordham men's tennis team was back in action on Wednesday afternoon against a tough Ivy League opponent, the Penn Quakers, at the Levy Tennis Pavilion. The match saw the Rams fall behind quickly in doubles play, and Penn followed with a sweep in singles play for a 7-0 victory over Fordham.
The Rams dropped the doubles point to open the match, led by a 8-0 win by Ivan Turudic and Zach Katz over Austin Shoup and Ken Fukumoto. The Quakers also picked by 8-4 and 8-3 wins at second and third doubles to complete the sweep.
In singles action, Penn swept all six matches in straight sets. The best performances by Fordham came at second singles, where Fordham's Austin Shoup fell to Jason Magnes, 6-2, 6-4, while Dan Kane-West was downed by Dmitry Bury at fifth singles, 6-3, 6-2.
The Fordham men's tennis team will next be in action on Saturday, February 19th, when they take on St. Thomas Aquinas at the Tenafly Racquet Club in Tenafly, New Jersey.
