Playing in their second match of the spring season, the Fordham University women's tennis almost picked up its first win on 2011, falling to Army by a 4-3 score at Lichtenberg Tennis Center. Angelika Dabu, Hanna Fritzinger and Mia Fiocca accounted for the Rams' points with wins at first through third singles, respectively.
The Rams opened the match dropping the doubles point as the Black Knights took all three doubles matches. Fiocca and Dabu fell at first doubles to Annie Houghton and Jamila Paul, 8-5, while Fritzinger and Bethany Boyle dropped second doubles to Annie Hang and Jurell Mendoza, 8-2. At third doubles, Sarah Tremaine and Jennifer Mullen fell to Robbie Verano and Carly Riney, 8-3.
At first singles, Dabu upended Patricia Vollmer in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2, while at the second position, Fritzinger handled Holly Pappafotis in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1. Fiocca took third singles from Mendoza, 6-3, 6-1, but the Rams couldn't find another singles win to pull out the victory.
The Rams will next be in action on Saturday, February 19th as they travel to Hamden, Conn., to take on Quinnipiac University for a 2:00 p.m. match.
