Meara, Bekoe, Richardson Named All Region by NSCAA

Bronx, N.Y. - 2011 NSCAA All-Mid-Atlantic Region Teams

The accolades continue to roll in for the Fordham men's soccer team as three Rams were named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-Mid-Atlantic Region team it was announced today. The Fordham player honored are Ryan Meara (Crestwood, New York/Fordham Prep) and Nathaniel Bekoe (Accra, Ghana/Hotchkiss School (Conn.)), who earned First Team accolades, and Tim Richardson (Palmerston North, New Zealand/ Palmerston North), who was placed on the Third Team.

The Fordham men's soccer program enjoyed a remarkable 2011 season, winning a share of the Atlantic 10 regular season title, earning a number one seed in the A-10 Championship, and having seven players feted to the All-Conference team, the most Fordham players honored since the Rams joined the league in 1995.

Meara's senior season was the culmination of an outstanding career as he set the school record for shutouts, helped the Rams defeated two ranked teams during the season, and earned All A-10 First Team and Defensive Player of the Year accolades. On the year, he had an 11-6-1 record with a 0.65 goals against average and he recorded ten shutouts. Meara, who was recently invited to participate in the MLS Combine, led the Atlantic 10 in goals against average, shutouts and save percentage (.862) while in the NCAA rankings (through games of December 4th), he is sixth in save percentage and eleventh in goals against average.

Bekoe, a sophomore midfielder for the team, earned First Team All Atlantic 10 status this fall. His second year at Rose Hill saw him earn two points on the year, assisting on goals against La Salle and at Saint Joseph's.

Richardson, a 2011 Second Team All-Atlantic 10 member, finished his career at Rose Hill by competing in everyone game except for one during his four years on campus. His final season saw him score goals at Manhattan, versus La Salle and at Saint Joseph's. He also recorded assists at Dayton and Temple.

The 2011 men's soccer team finished the season with an 11-7-1, 7-2 in the Atlantic 10, and posted wins over ranked opponents #23 Xavier and #11 Charlotte.
