Men's Basketball Travels to Manhattan for "Battle of the Bronx" Tonight

Bronx, N.Y. - The Fordham University Rams continue their 2011-12 season by traveling across the Bronx to face Manhattan College in the 104th "Battle of the Bronx" in the Draddy Gym on Wednesday, December 7th, at 7:00 p.m. The game can be heard live on WFUV (90.7 FM) and on wfuv.org. Fordham Game Notes

Fordham enters the game with a 3-3 record after defeating Hampton University, 54-43, in the Rose Hill Gym on Monday night. Manhattan enters the game with a 4-4 record, after a 68-42 MAAC win over Saint Peter's in the Draddy Gym on Sunday.

On the court, Fordham is led by junior Chris Gaston, who scored ten points and grabbed ten rebounds in the Hampton win on Monday, his fifth straight double-double of the year and the 41st of his career. Gaston's ten points brings his career total to 1,036, good for 31st on the Rams' all-time scoring list, one point behind Fred Christ (1949-52) for 30th place, while his ten rebounds brings his career rebounding total to 694, moving him ahead of Charlie Yelverton (1968-71) and into 11th place on the Rams' all-time rebounding list, four behind John Coalman (1958-61).

Wednesday night's contest will be the 104th meeting between Fordham and Manhattan on the hardwood. The Jaspers lead the all-time series, which started 100 years ago in 1911-12, 53-50. The 103 games played against Manhattan are the most against any one opponent for Fordham while the 50 wins over the Jaspers are the most over any one team for the Rams.

Fordham won last year matchup, 73-59, on December 8th in the Rose Hill Gym as Brenton Butler scored a game-high 21 points while Kervin Bristol netted 11 points and grabbed a career-high 16 rebounds.
