The Fordham University women's basketball squad will take its 3-1 road record so far this season over to New Brunswick, New Jersey, where they will take on the eleventh-ranked Rutgers University Scarlet Knights in the Louis Brown Athletic Center, more commonly known as The RAC, on Thursday, December 8, at 7:30 PM. The game can be heard live on the internet on www.WFUV.org.
Fordham and Rutgers will meet for the fifth time on Thursday, with Rutgers winning the four previous meetings. The series between the two schools commenced in 1976 when the Scarlet Knights beat the Rams, 81-72, on Staten Island as part of the Staten Island Christmas Tournament. The most recent meeting saw Rutgers triumph, 77-69, in a game played at the RAC back in 1990.
Fordham enters the contest after falling to Bucknell, 49-39, on December 6th in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania. In that game, Arielle Collins scored a game-high 16 points and set a career-best by sinking seven field goals. The Bison were the sixth team the Rams held below the 50-point barrier this season.
On the season, Abigail Corning leads the team in scoring at 12.0 ppg and Becky Peters is next at 11.3 followed by Collins at 10.3.
Rutgers enters Thursday's matchup with an 8-1 mark. The Scarlet Knights have a trio of players in double figures for scoring, led by April Sykes at 13.9, who is followed by Monique Oliver at 12.9 and Khadijah Rushdan at 12.0. Most recently, Rutgers fell to #9 Miami, 92-81, in double overtime on Monday in Florida.
Following the Rutgers game, the Rams close out their three-game road with a trip to Long Island to face Stony Brook on Sunday, December 11th, at 2:00 PM.
