Final Stats
Lewisburg, Pa. - Fordham traveled to Bucknell on Tuesday, looking to extend its winning streak to three games, but in the end, the Bison prevailed, 49-39, in a contest that saw cold shooting on both sides.
It what has become customary for the Rams this season, the team came out of the gate slowly, falling behind 5-2 in the first four and a half minutes of play before an Arielle Collins basket made it a 5-4 game with 14:26 left in the half.
Bucknell extended the lead to 7-4, at 13:16, but the Rams rattled off four straight points to steal the lead, 8-7. Those four points came from an Abigail Corning jumper and a Collins layup, the latter coming at 9:36, the last time the Rams held the lead in the game.
The final ten minutes of the half saw both teams get several open looks, but neither side could knock down many shots. The Bison took a 19-14 lead into halftime.
Strangely for the Rams, they scored just 14 points in the first half against TCU earlier in the year, and erased an 18 point deficit against the Horned Frogs to lose by one. However, there would be no comeback in Tuesday's game.
The second half saw the Rams go nearly six minutes without scoring, as an Collins layup at 14:03 made the score 28-18 for the Bison. From there, the Rams got to within five, at 28-23, with 12:20 left as Becky Peters hit a three-pointer and Collins made another layup.
The Fordham defense kept battling and Bucknell couldn't pull away as Charlotte Stoddart pulled the Rams to within four, 31-27, with a jumper at 9:58. Bucknell responded with a 9-2 run to take a 40-29 lead and put the game away as Amy Zehner scored four of the nine points in the run.
A Collins layup at 5:55 got Fordham within seven, at 40-33, but they got no closer and Bucknell prevailed 49-39.
Collins scored a game-high 16 points, as the Rams fall to 5-3 on the year and end a two-game-winning streak.
The Rams have a brief respite before traveling across the Hudson River to face Rutgers on Thursday at 7:30 PM
