Bronx, N.Y. -
At 5-2, the women's basketball team is off to its best start since the 2002-03 squad opened with the same record. This year's group has won two straight, including a last-second win over San Diego on Saturday, and will look to make it three consecutive victories as it visits Bucknell on Tuesday, December 6 at 7:00 PM. The game can be heard live on the internet on www.WFUV.org.
Fordham and Bucknell will meet for the 21st time on Tuesday in Sojka Pavilion. The series between the two schools commenced in 1983 when the Rams beat the Bison, 78-63, in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania. The most recent meeting saw Fordham triumph, 64-42, in a game played at the Rose Hill Gym last November. Currently the Rams lead the all-time series, 15-5.
Fordham enters the contest off the heels of a 44-42 win over the Toreros on December 3. In that game, Becky Peters put the Rams ahead to stay by sinking a pair of foul shots with under five seconds remaining. Peters led the team with 16 points while Abigail Corning collected a career-high 11 rebounds, and Arielle Collins shot 50% from the field (5-of-10) en route to a 14-point output.
On the season, Corning leads the team in scoring at 13.1 ppg and Peters is next at 11.9. Last week, Corning was named A-10 Co-Player of the Week while freshman Christina Gaskin was feted as A-10 Rookie of the Week.
The Bison enter Tuesday's matchup with a 1-8 mark. They are led in scoring by Amy Zehner at 11.7 ppg. Most recently, Bucknell fell to NJIT, 54-53, in Newark, New Jersey on Saturday.
Following the game with Bucknell, the Rams have a pair of local road games, as they travel to New Jersey to face Rutgers University on Thursday and then close out the week by trekking to Stony Brook University on Long Island on Sunday.
