Newport News, Va. -
Fordham University junior swimmers Brienne Ryan (New Windsor, N.Y./Cornwall) and Devon Morris (Kirkland, Wash./The Bush School) were named the Atlantic 10 Women's and Men's Swimming & Diving Performers of the Week, respectively, it was announced by the league office today. It is Ryan's second weekly award of the season, while being the first career performer award for Morris.
Ryan picks up her sixth career performer of the week award after a solid showing at this weekend's tri-meet with Williams College and Boston College. She was a part of three event wins on Saturday, beginning with a victory in the 200-yard backstroke in 2:02.22. She was also a part of the winning 200 medley (1:46.65) and 400 freestyle (3:33.48) relay teams. On top of those efforts, Ryan was second in the 200 freestyle in a season-best time of 1:52.24. She now joins teammate Courtney Collyer and Richmond's Mali Kobelja as this season's only multiple time winners of the Atlantic 10 Women's Performer of the Week award.
Morris, who had one weekly rookie award to his credit as a freshman, picks up his first performer award after recording two individual victories this past weekend in the 50-yard freestyle in 21.14 seconds and the 100-yard freestyle in a season-best time of 46.30 seconds. He was also a part of the winning 200-yard medley relay team in 1:35.96 at the Williams/Boston College tri-meet. Morris also added a second place finish as a part of the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:07.76.
Ryan, Morris, and the rest of the Fordham swimming & diving teams are now in winter training, and won't return to action until Friday, January 20th, when they take on Iona at 4:00 PM in New Rochelle, New York.
