Fordham's Gaston named A-10 Co-Player of the Week (N.Y. Post)

Fordham University junior forward Chris Gaston (Union City, N.J./St. Anthony) was named Atlantic 10 Co-Player of the Week it was announced by the conference office today. The honor is the first weekly award for a Fordham player this year and the fifth in Gaston's career (he was named A-10 Rookie of the Week four times in 2009-10). He shares this week's award with Richmond's Darien Brothers.
On Thursday the Rams defeated Texas State in the Rose Hill Gym with Gaston enjoying a career-night, scoring 35 points and adding 15 rebounds. The 35 points surpassed his career-high of 32, set three times his freshman year (the last time on February 20, 2010 at Rhode Island). The 35 points are the most scored by a Ram since Michael Haynes netted 36 at St. Bonaventure on March 6, 2004.
Gaston shot 13-of-17 from the field and 9-for-12 from the charity stripe in accumulating his 35 points and he added a block and a steal.
On the year, Gaston, who has scored in double figures in ten of the eleven games, leads the Rams and is ranked seventh in the Atlantic 10 with a 16.1 ppg scoring average. He also leads the conference and is ranked 16th in the nation in rebounding, averaging 10.7 per game. His nine double-doubles this year are the most for any NCAA Division I player and bring his career total to 45 in 67 career games.
Over his career, Gaston 1,127 career points, moving him ahead of Damon Lopez (1988-91) and John Brady (1956-59) and into 23rd place on the Fordham all-time scoring list. He also has 753 career rebounds, moving him ahead of Bill Carlson (1949-52) and into ninth place on the Fordham career rebounding list, one behind John Stevens (1962-65) for 22nd place.
The Rams will next be in action on Thursday, December 29th, as they host the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in the Rose Hill Gym at 8:00 PM. The game can be heard live on WFUV (90.7 FM) and www.wfuv.org and will be televised live on the CBS Sports Network.
