ECAC All Star Teams

Centerville, Mass. - After a memorable season that saw the Fordham men's soccer team share part of the A-10 Championships and earn a #1 seed in the A-10 Tournament, the accolades continue to roll in for senior goalie Ryan Meara (Crestwood, New York/Fordham Prep), who was named to the ECAC All-Star Second Team, it was announced today.

Meara's recognition caps a memorable senior season that saw him set the all-time school marks in shutouts (31) and save percentage (.804). Additionally, he was part of a defense that posted clean sheets over #23 Xavier and #10 Charlotte (the 49ers later advanced to the National Championship game), with identical 1-0 scores.

Meara closed out his Fordham career by being named the 2011 Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Year as well as First Team All-Conference. On the year, he notched an 11-6-1 record with a miniscule 0.65 goals against average and ten shutouts. Meara led the Atlantic 10 in goals against average, shutouts and save percentage (.862). In the NCAA rankings, he was sixth in save percentage and eleventh in goals against average.

This past fall, Maura was also named to the Hermann Trophy Watch List, presented to the best female and male players in NCAA Division I soccer

As a junior, the Crestwood native was named team MVP, was feted as a First Team All Mid-Atlantic honoree by the NSCAA and was selected to the A-10 First Team for the pre-season and regular season.

In his second season at Fordham, Meara earned NSCAA Mid-Atlantic All-Region First Team and First Team All-Atlantic 10 accolades while starting all 19 games.

Highly touted as a freshman, Meara began his career by earning a spot on the Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team as well as the NSCAA Mid-Atlantic All-Region Team. Additionally, he was named Atlantic 10 Co-Rookie of the Week once.

Meara was the only member of the A-10 to be named to either of the ECAC All-Star Teams. He is projected to be a first-round draft pick in the upcoming MLS Super Draft in January by Joe Mauceri at www.Topdrawersoccer.com
