The Rams and Eagles will meet for only the second time on Saturday. The first meeting between the two schools was in Atlanta in 1988, where the Rams defeated the Eagles, 79-65. This will be just the third time the Rams face a school from the Big South, having also faced UNC Asheville, and Fordham is a perfect 2-0 in those games.
The Rams enter the contents on the heels of a 41-37 victory at Stony Brook on Sunday. The win ended a two-game-losing streak while the Rams held the Seawolves to eleven first-half points, the fewest allowed in the shot clock era for the team.
Fordham enters the game with a 6-4 record and has three players averaging in double figures for scoring beginning with Abigail Corning at 11.4 ppg. Becky Peters is scoring 10.9 ppg and leads the team in free throws made (24), while Arielle Collins enters play averaging 10.1 ppg, leading the squad in assists (30) and steals (16).
The Eagles enter the game with a 4-5 mark after winning their second straight, an 88-54 victory over Monmouth on Wednesday. The team is led in scoring by Dequesha McClanahan (19.2 ppg) followed by Diana Choibekova (16.8 ppg) and Samiya Wright (12.0 ppg).
Following the Winthrop game, the Rams will serve as hosts for the fifth annual Fordham Holiday Tournament on Thursday and Friday, December 29th and 30th. Joining Fordham in this year's tournament are Navy, Coppin State and Boston University. The Rams will open play on Thursday by facing Navy at 12:00 p.m.
