Women's Basketball Heads to Florida to Participate in UCF Thanksgiving Tournament

Orlando, Fla. - While most people will be home eating Thanksgiving leftovers, the Fordham women's basketball family will spend the holiday weekend competing in the UCF Thanksgiving Tournament, hosted by the University of Central Florida in Orlando on Friday and Saturday. The schools participating are Fordham, UCF, TCU and Hartford, but the pairings were predetermined so that the Rams will face the Knights and the Horned Frogs on consecutive days.

The Rams enter the tournament with a 2-1 mark, most recently defeating Holy Cross, 54-43 in Worcester, Massachusetts, on Saturday, November 19. In that game, four different players scored in double-figures, led by 14 points from Abigail Corning, who has led the team in scoring in all three contests so far. Cody Sims chipped in with three blocked shots in the win for the Rams.

The host school, the UCF Knights, enter the matchup with Fordham at 2-1. They opened the season with a triple-overtime loss to South Alabama and followed that up with wins over Florida A&M and Mercer. Statistically, the team has three players averaging over 10 points per game, led by Aisha Patrick at 16.7. Second on the squad in scoring is Gevenia Carter at 12.7 while Erika Jones contributes 11.7 PPG and a whopping 14.7 rebounds per game. The game between UCF and Fordham is scheduled for Friday, November 25th. at 2:30 PM.

The Rams will conclude the tournament with Mountain West Conference opponent, TCU, on Saturday, November 26th, at noon. The Horned Frogs enter the tournament with a 1-3 overall mark. They have a win over Texas-San Antonio and losses to Georgia, SMU and North Carolina State. Natalie Ventress leads the team in scoring at 13.8 PPG, and she is followed by Antoinette Thompson, who contributes 10.5 PPG while shooting 54% from the field.

Following the Thanksgiving Tournament, the Rams travel across the Bronx of the annual "Battle of the Bronx", facing Manhattan College on Wednesday, November 30, in Draddy Gymnasium. The team returns home to meet San Diego on Saturday, December 3.
