The Fordham swimming & diving teams are in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania this weekend, competing in the three-day Bucknell Invitational at Kinney Natatorium. The Rams had a good opening day, as the women's team sits in second place out of six teams, while the men are tied for fourth out of seven teams.
In the women's competition, Bucknell leads with 388 points, followed by Fordham (315.5), Delaware (309.5), La Salle (306), Colgate (302.5), and Georgetown (282.5). On the men's side, Bucknell is in the top spot with 488.5 points, followed by La Salle (328.5), Delaware (322), Fordham (266), Georgetown (266), Colgate (146), and Susquehanna (17).
A total of 12 events were held on day one (six women, six men), and began with women's 200 freestyle relay, where Fordham's team of Kellie Lyver, Kelly Bunster, Courtney Collyer, and Brienne Ryan placed second in a season-best time of 1:36.94. In the men's race, Fordham's Shintaro Noguchi, Thomas Yi, Patrick Mulligan, and Devon Morris took third in a season-best time of 1:23.98.
The next event was the women's 500 freestyle, which saw four Rams make the finals. In the "C" final Alexandra Wessel was 18th overall in 5:10.37, while Alana Biagioli scored in 22nd in 5:13.47. In the "A" final, Collyer won the overall event in a season-best time of 4:56.94, while Kara Field took fourth in her best time of the year, 5:02.67.
In the men's edition of the 500 freestyle, two Rams qualified for the "C" final, as Andrew Hendrickson took 18th overall in a season-best time of 4:44.42, while Nicolas Alemann placed 21st in his best time of the year, 4:47.92.
Next up was the women's 200 individual medley, where Collyer made the "A" final once again with Shannon Jones qualifying for the "C" final. Collyer took fourth overall in 2:07.97, while Jones placed in 21st in her best time of the year (2:12.80).
In the men's 200 individual medley event, five Rams made their way into the final. Zach Jacobsen made the "C" final, placing 19th overall in 1:58.22, while Patrick Militti and Kevin Kosciuk made the "B" final. Militti won the "B" final to place ninth overall in 1:55.48 with Kosciuk finishing 15th in 1:59.12. In the "A" final, Noguchi took fourth overall in a season-best time of 1:54.49, while Yi was right behind him in fifth in 1:55.56.
The next event was the 50 freestyle, where the Rams had five women and four men qualify for the finals. In the women's races, Bunster (19th - 24.66), Ariana Peschke (21st - 24.95), and Biagioli (22nd - 25.10) competed in the "C" final, while Lyver took 13th in the "B" final in 24.68 seconds. Ryan was the Rams' top finisher, as she placed third overall in the "A" final in a season-best time of 23.83 seconds.
In the men's event, Morris (21.14) and Noguchi (21.98) placed fifth and eighth, respectively in the "A" final with Mulligan taking 16th (21.96) in the "B" final. Militti was the final Ram scorer in the "C" final, placing 23rd (22.22).
The final swimming events were the 400 medley relays, where Fordham took third in both. Ryan, Collyer, Bunster, and Peschke posted a season-best time of 3:53.36, while Yi, Sean McManus, Noguchi, and Morris registered a season-best time of 3:27.59.
The divers then took center stage, as all four Fordham competitors scored. Andrea Krok led the way in the women's three-meter competition by taking third place with a score of 257.85, followed by Brittany Salas in fourth (251.85) and Elizabeth Dorger in fifth (249.60). The Rams' lone men's diver, Kevin Wong, also scored as he placed eighth with a season-best score of 199.20 in the one-meter dive.
Day two of the Bucknell Invitational begins on Saturday morning with preliminary action.
