Women's Basketball to Meet Holy Cross on Saturday

Bronx, N.Y. - The Fordham women's basketball team opened up the 2011-12 campaign by splitting a pair of home games with the University at Albany and Cleveland State. Now, the team takes to the road for the first of four straight road games, starting with a trip to Worcester, Massachusetts, on Saturday, November 19, to face the Holy Cross Crusaders at 1:00 p.m.

The Rams enter the game with a 1-1 record, picking up the win over Cleveland State in their most recent game. Against the Vikings on Wednesday, three Fordham players reached double-figures in scoring led by Abigail Corning's 13 point output. Becky Peters, who scored a dozen, and Charlotte Stoddart, who chipped in with 11 points, eight rebounds and made 5-of-9 field goals, also netted double figures to leads Fordham to the win, 52-43.

Holy Cross owns a 1-2 mark so far in 2011-12, opening the season with losses to Yale and Connecticut before picking up their first win of the season, over Quinnipiac, on Wednesday. Through three games, the Crusaders have a trio of players averaging in double figures for scoring. Leading the way is Emily Parker, who has only played in two of the three games but leads the team with an average of 18.5 PPG and 9.0 RPG. The other two Crusaders who are averaging double digits are Alex Smith and Amy Lepley, who both enter the matchup scoring 11 PPG.

This will be the 39th all-time meeting between the two Jesuit institutions dating back to 1984 with Holy Cross leading the lifetime series 31-7. The last time they faced each other, in 2010, Fordham came away with a 67-36 victory in the Bronx. Becky Peters scored 10 points while Abigail Corning and Charlotte Stoddart each had nine.

Following the meeting with Holy Cross, the Rams will travel to Orlando, Florida, to participate in the UCF Tournament. Fordham opens play with a game against Central Florida on Friday, November 25, at 2:30 p.m. and then face Texas Christian on Saturday at 12:00 p.m.
