Bronx, N.Y. -
The women's basketball team will face Horizon League opponent, Cleveland State, on Wednesday, November 16, at 7:00 P.M. in the Rose Hill Gym. This will be the first-ever meeting between the two universities. Prior to the game, there will be a brief ceremony honoring Becky Peters reaching 1000 career points.
The Rams enter the game at 0-1, after falling to Albany in the season-opener, 59-42. Despite the loss, there were several highlights for Fordham including Peters reaching 1000 career points, Abigail Corning tying a career-high for points in a game (14) and Charlotte Stoddart equaling a career-best with eight rebounds.
Several newcomers made contributions for the Rams as well as forward Christina Gaskin grabbed six boards while fellow freshman, Liz Milner recorded a team-high two steals. As a team, Fordham shot .417 from behind the three-point line.
Peters, who will be honored at a pre-game ceremony, became one of 15 Rams to reach 1000 career points, and the first since Mobolaji Akiode in 2003. She did it with a layup at the 18:45 mark of the second half. She currently has 1001 points.
The Vikings enter Wednesday's contest with a 1-1 record after beating Tennessee State to open the season and falling to Illinois last Sunday. Offensively, Cleveland State looks to Pre-Season All-Horizon League First Team player, Shalonda Winton. The forward is averaging 13 points per game entering Wednesday's contest.
Prior to the game there will be a reception in Dagger John's from 5:30-6:55 for all of the faculty and staff of the University as part of Faculty Appreciation Night. They will be admitted free to the game and are cordially invited to attend both events.
Following the game with the Vikings, the Rams return to action on Saturday, November 19, as they travel to Worcester, Massachusetts, to face Holy Cross at 1:00 P.M., for the first game of a four-game-road-trip. The next home game for Fordham will be on Saturday, December 3, when the Rams face the University of San Diego at 1:00 P.M. in the Rose Hill Gym.
