Fordham University junior swimmers Brienne Ryan (New Windsor, N.Y./Cornwall) and Thomas Yi (Honolulu, Hawaii/Kalani) were named the Atlantic 10 Women's and Men's Swimming & Diving Performers of the Week, respectively, it was announced by the league office today. In the same announcement, freshman swimmer Patrick Militti (Omaha, Neb./Creighton Prep) was named Atlantic 10 Men's Swimming & Diving Rookie of the Week. It is the first weekly award of the season for all three swimmers.
Ryan picks up her fifth career performer of the week award after an impressive meet at Boston University on Saturday. She was a part of three event wins in the Rams' win over the Terriers. She won the 100-yard (55.47) and 200-yard (2:00.08) backstroke events, while anchoring the 400 freestyle relay team to a win in 3:29.70. All three times were the best by any Ram this season, as well as being the top time in the Atlantic 10. She also helped the 200 medley relay team to a second place finish in a season-best time of 1:47.05. Currently, her 100 backstroke time ranks 24th in the nation as of Sunday, while her 200 backstroke time is in the top 40 in the NCAA.
Yi picks up his first performer of the week award after he won the 200 individual medley at the BU/Texas A&M meet on Saturday in 1:57.77, posting the his best time of the season. He also recorded the team's season-best times in both backstroke events at 52.64 seconds (100 backstroke) and 1:53.27 (200 backstroke), which both rank second in the Atlantic 10 this season.
Militti earns his first career honor after being a part of the winning 400 freestyle relay team at the BU/Texas A&M meet, which posted their best time of the year in 3:07.90. He also registered his best times of the season in the 100 (47.76) and 200 (1:44.63) freestyle events as well as the 100 butterfly (51.70).
Ryan, Yi, Militti, and the rest of the Fordham swimming & diving teams will next be in action on November 18th-20th, when the Rams travel to the Bucknell Invitational in Lewisburg, Pa.
