2011 Capital One Academic All-District ® Football Teams

Fordham University junior defensive back Brendan Melanophy (Danbury, Conn./Danbury) was named to the 2011 First Team Capital One Academic All-District® Football Team in voting among the district's Sports Information Directors it was announced today. He will now be placed on the national ballot for Academic All-American® consideration.
This is the second straight year a Ram has been named Academic All-District®. Last year,
defensive back Jamal Haruna and punter/place kicker Patrick Murray received the honor.
To be eligible for Capital One Academic All-District® honors, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution.
Melanophy, a starter at safety for two years, is fifth on the 2011 squad with 43 total tackles, including 28 solo, and he has one tackle for loss along with two pass deflections one quarterback hurry and one forced fumble. He has started every game this year and is ranked 30th in the Patriot League in tackles per game.
Over his career, Melanophy has made 115 total tackles, 81 solo, in 30 games, with two interceptions and five pass deflections.
The Rams will continue their 2011 Patriot League season this Saturday, November 5th, as they host the Bucknell University Bison on Jack Coffey Field at 1:00 p.m.
