The men's golf team jumped from 17th up four spots to finish in a tie for 13th, out of 22 teams at the 2011 Big 5 Invitational from the Plymouth Country Club in Plymouth Meeting, Pennsylvania. The winning school was Dartmouth, with a combined score of 578. The Fordham team posted a second round score of 292, improving from the 310 they recorded in the opening 18 holes. Junior Connor Monaghan helped the resurgence, due to an even-par 70 round on Sunday. Combined with his opening score of 76, his 146 combined score put him in 14th among individual golfers. The highlight for Monaghan came when made eagle two on the par-four second hole.
His classmate, Jason Del Rosso, recorded identical rounds of 75 for a 10 over tally of 150. He came in 38th place. From there, Brody Nieporte and Devon O'Rourke finished in a tie for 56th position with scores of 153. Nieporte shot a 74 on Sunday and O'Rourke shaved seven strokes off his score, going from an 80 to a 73. Freshman Jeff Hogan also improved in the second round. After posting an 80 on Saturday, he trimmed his mark to a 75 on Sunday. The 155 score netted him 66th place.
The golf team returns to action on Saturday, October 15 when it travels to Charlestown, Rhode Island to compete in the Classic at Shelter Harbor from the Shelter Harbor Golf Club. The event concludes on Sunday the 16th.
