Men's Soccer Closes Out Perfect Road Trip with 1-0 Win over Dayton

Dayton, Ohio - Fordham entered Sunday's contest with Dayton on a torrid offensive pace. The team mustered three goals in their last three games and the Atlantic 10 conference game in Dayton, Ohio saw the Rams continue to push the pace on offense against the Flyers as they defeated Dayton, 1-0, to improve to 2-0 in league play.

The first half was totally dominated by the Rams. They out shot the Flyers 13-1, took five corner kicks to Dayton's zero and committed no fouls while drawing seven offenses from the home team. The Rams had four shots in the first six minutes of action, including a shot on goal by John Niyonsaba at the end of the 6th minute. He totaled four shots in the opening 45 minutes. Fordham dominated play in all three areas of the field early on as they held the Flyers to just one Ryan Lyn shot on goal that Ryan Meara easily saved in the 22nd minute. But, despite the domination on the stat sheet by Fordham, the game remained scoreless at the intermission.

The second half saw the Rams continue to generate scoring chances as they had six shots in the opening 25 minutes. Fordham finally got on the board in the 70th minute. Senior Matt Courtenay, who scored two days ago against Xavier, gave the Rams a 1-0 lead when a cross from the 18 yard box by Tim Richardson deflected off a defender to Courtenay who buried the ball in the far corner of the net. It was Courtenay's third goal of the season and Stalker`s first assist. The game would remain scoreless and Fordham won, 1-0.

With the win, the Rams improves to 6-4-1 overall, 2-0 in league play. Ryan Meara recorded his 29th career shutout after setting the all-time mark against Xavier just two days ago. Fordham out shot the Flyers in the game 23-10. Dayton now falls to 1-11-1 on the season, 0-2 in conference games.

The Rams return home on Friday, October 14, when they host Massachusetts. The A-10 conference game gets underway at 7:00 P.M.
