The Fordham University women's tennis team kept its hot fall season going today with a 5-2 win over the New Jersey Institute of Technology on the Hawthorn/Rooney Courts. With the win, Fordham improves to 2-0 in the fall season.
The match opened with singles play with the Rams taking four of the six matches. Amy Simidian opened things by taking first singles from Ksenia Kuzmenko, winning in straight sets, 6-4 and 6-1.
The other singles winners for the Rams were Angelika Dabu, who won at third singles over Martina Tripcovici in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4, Bella Genkina, who was victorious over Nina Mayevska at fifth singles, 6-1 and 6-4, and Julie Leong, who outlasted Carolina Zanotta at the sixth position, losing the first set, 6-4, before coming back to win the second and third, 6-1 and 6-2.
The Rams then closed out the match by sweeping all three doubles matches. Simidian and Sarah Ali took first singles from Kuzmenko and Jana Luste, 8-3, while Bella Genkina and Hanna Fritzinger upended Monika Graff and Hannelore MacDonald at the second position, 8-3, and Taylor Holt and Bethany Boyle defeated Tripcovici and Megan Guidry, 8-2, at third doubles.
The Rams will return to action on Saturday, October 8th as they travel to Kingston, R.I., to face the University of Rhode Island at 1:00 p.m.
