Ryan Meara Continues to be Ranked Among Nation's Best

Oct. 4, 2011

Bronx, N.Y. - In a season where the men's soccer team currently sports a 4-4-1 record, senior goalkeeper, Ryan Meara, has recorded five shutouts this season, tying him with Jeff Knuth, for the most in school history. However, in addition to being on the precipice of setting the school's all-time mark, Meara is ranked among the nation's best in several categories as well.

The most recent NCAA soccer statistics were published this week and Meara is in the top 20 in a pair of areas. His 0.875 Save Percentage places him 9th in the country. The top spot is held by Creighton's Brian Holt, whom Meara faced earlier in the season in a 1-0 Bluejays victory. Meara also is ranked 16th in the land in Goals Against Average, which currently stands at 0.6 per game.

As a team, the Rams are ranked in the Mid-Atlantic region for the seventh week in a row. They are in the seventh position, and the top two spots are held by future Fordham opponents, Charlotte and Xavier. The third team on the list, Lehigh, was defeated by Fordham 1-0 earlier in the season on a goal by Michael Stalker. Most recently, the Rams defeated Manhattan College, 2-0, in the annual `Battle of the Bronx.' In that contest, John Niyonsaba and Tim Richardson recorded the markers for Fordham.

Fordham returns to action on Friday, October, 7 when they travel to Cincinnati, Ohio to face Xavier in the start of Atlantic 10 conference play. The game gets underway at 7:00 P.M.
