Fordham University senior swimmer Courtney Collyer (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Joseph by the Sea) and sophomore swimmer Shintaro Noguchi (Tiburon, Calif./Redwood) were named the Atlantic 10 Women's and Men's Swimming & Diving Performer of the Week, respectively it was announced by the league office today. It is Collyer's second straight and fourth career weekly accolade, while being the fifth weekly award for Noguchi, who was a four-time Rookie of the Week last season.
Collyer continued her impressive start to her senior campaign, winning the 200 and 500 freestyle events against Fairfield on Friday. She posted a time of 1:53.86 in the 200 frestyle and 5:01.59 in the 500 freestyle, which were both season-best times for the Rams with her 500 freestyle time being almost eight seconds faster than the next best time. Through three meets, Collyer has yet to lose an individual race this season.
Noguchi picks up his first performer of the week award after two event wins on Friday against Fairfield, taking home first in the 200 butterfly (1:54.74) and 200 individual medley (1:55.39) events. Both of his times in the individual events clocked in as the best by a Ram this season.
Collyer, Noguchi, and the rest of the Fordham swimming & diving teams will next be in action on Saturday, November 12th, when the Rams travel to Boston University for a 1:30 PM start.
