Women's Tennis Continues Run at 2011 USTA/ITA Northeast Regional

New Haven, Conn. - Members of the Fordham women's tennis team continued play at the 2011 USTA/ITA Northeast Regional on Saturday in New Haven, Connecticut with two players advancing to the round of 64, and then one into Sunday's round of 32.

In the round of 128, Fordham's Bella Genkina continued her strong play, as she defeated Niagara's Hilary Hanson, 6-4, 6-4, to advance and play ninth-seeded Misia Krasowski of Brown. With three singles matches and one doubles match already in the books, Genkina ran out of gas against Krasowski falling in straight sets, 6-3, 6-0, in the round of 64.

Fordham had two other matches in round of 128 on Saturday, as Angelika Dabu fell to NJIT's Nina Mayevska, 7-5, 6-2, while Sarah Ali lost to Boston University's Jessica Linero, 6-2, 6-3.

The final singles match featuring a Fordham competitor was junior Amy Simidian, who was seeded 17th overall and received a bye into the round of 64, where she took on Harvard's Hanah Morrill. Morrill took the first set in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (4), while Simidian fought back to even the match at one set apiece, taking the second set, 6-4. Simidian then completed her comeback effort by winning the third set, 6-2, and advance to the round of 32.

Simidian will continue play on Sunday morning, as round of 32 matches begin at 10:00 AM
