The Fordham men's golf team joined the gridiron Rams in that they also had competition in the Lehigh Valley on Saturday, but it was the golf team that placed 2nd, out of 8 teams, after one round of play at the Lehigh Invitational from the Saucon Valley Country Club in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. The course, which is a par-72, 6005-yard layout, saw the Rams post a team score of 301, just five strokes behind Seton Hall's 296. Fordham shares the second position with Lafayette College, who posted an identical 301.
Among individual golfers, the Rams were led by senior captain Devon O'Rourke and junior Connor Monaghan. The two links men each shot two-over-par 74s and currently sit in a tie for 6th place, three strokes behind the overall leader, Carter Rufe, of Lafayette, who was one under for the day.
After the two top men for the Rams, Brody Nieporte is next on the leader board in 18th place, on the heels of his opening round score of 76. Following him is Jason Del Rosso, who posted a 77 and shares a part of 23rd place. The final Fordham competitor, Jeff Hogan, also tied with Del Rosso after shooting an identical 77.
The second and final round of competition is set for Sunday morning. The Rams trail Lafayette by a mere five strokes and will look to catch them on Sunday.
