Swimming & Diving Competes at the 2011 Husky Invitational

Storrs, Conn. - After opening their season on Thursday, the Fordham swimming teams were right back in action on Saturday at the 2011 Husky Invitational in Storrs, Connecticut. It was another successful afternoon, as Fordham captured eight event wins, while totaling 47 top five finishers against Connecticut, Maine, Providence, and Vermont.

Leading the way for Fordham was senior Courtney Collyer, who won three individual events and was a part of the winning 200 freestyle relay. She began the day by winning the 200 butterfly in a season-best time of 2:03.45. Later, Collyer captured the 100 butterfly event in 56.62, as well as the 400 individual medley in 4:30.33.

Collyer, along with Kellie Lyver, Brienne Ryan and Kelly Bunster, ended the day by anchoring the 200 freestyle relay team to a win in 1:38.33.

Ryan was right behind Collyer in today's performance, posting event wins in the 100 (56.65) and 200 (2:04.45) backstroke, while grabbing second in the 50 freestyle in 24.61 seconds.

On the men's side, junior Devon Morris and sophomore Shintaro Noguchi each had a strong day. Morris won the 100 freestyle in a season-best time of 46.91 seconds, while taking second in the 50 freestyle (21.40). Noguchi took home first in the 100 butterfly in 50.54 seconds, and grabbed third in both the 100 (47.13) and 50 (21.50) freestyle events.

Both Morris and Noguchi joined Patrick Militti and Patrick Mulligan, as members of the 200 freestyle relay team, which took second overall in 1:25.84.

Militti also had a strong afternoon as he concluded his first week of collegiate competition. He totaled three top fives on Saturday, taking fourth in the 100 freestyle (48.25), second in the 200 freestyle (1:45.47), and fifth in the 100 butterfly (52.61).

Other Rams that posted three top five event finishes included Thomas Yi (2nd - 200 IM - 1:58.70; 3rd - 200 back - 1:56.00; 2nd - 400 IM - 4:18.89), Lyver (5th - 100 free - 54.10; 2nd - 200 free - 1:57.11; 4th - 50 free - 25.02), Frances Warren (4th - 400 IM - 4:46.50; 5th - 200 free - 1:58.06; 3rd - 200 fly - 2:08.48), and Kara Field (3rd - 500 free - 5:09.56; 3rd - 200 free - 1:57.95; 5th - 400 IM - 4:46.71).

Those posting two top fives were Zach Jacobsen (3rd - 500 free - 4:52.92; 3rd - 400 IM - 4:21.61), Michael Grimmett-Norris (4th - 500 free - 4:53.42; 4th - 200 back - 1:56.67), Ben Dwyer (5th - 100 breast - 1:02.29; 3rd - 200 breast - 2:17.26), Kevin Kosciuk (3rd - 200 fly - 1:59.91; 3rd - 200 IM - 2:00.39), and Spencer Chappell (5th - 100 back - 59.47; 5th - 200 back - 2:08.84).

The Fordham swimming team will next be in action on Friday, October 28th, when the Rams host Fairfield University at 5:00 PM in the Messmore Aquatic Center.
