SERIES HISTORY: Fordham is 10-4-1 all-time against the Owls.
LAST TIME OUT: On a slightly chilly night that saw rain come in late, neither the Fordham Rams nor the Saint Joseph's Hawks could find the back of the net, as the two teams played to a scoreless tie on Jack Coffey Field.
The Hawks had the early scoring opportunities in the first ten minutes. The Hawks' Jen Pfeiffer headed a shot off the crossbar just 3:35 into the contest, while a header for Mo Hawkins drifted right of goal.
Pfeiffer was again denied by the crossbar in the 23rd minute, the second of her game-high five shots toward goal.
Saint Joseph's outshot Fordham by one, 5-4, in the first half, but the neither could sneak one by Fordham goalkeeper Rachel Suther or Saint Joseph's Lauren Jancuska. In the second half, Christine Neal came in to play goal for the Hawks, with Suther remaining in goal for Fordham.
The Hawks once again came very close to a marker in the 55th minute, when Morgan Circe put in a shot toward goal with Suther out of the net, but it was blocked and cleared by Fordham's Mary Solimine for a defender save.
Suther then came up with the save of the game in the 63rd minute, when Pfeiffer went in on a breakaway and was stopped by Suther toward the left side of goal.
Just a minute later, Fordham's Kelsey Dougherty Howard had Fordham's best chance of the half but her shot was blocked away by a Saint Joseph's defender.
In overtime, both teams had three shots apiece with the last chance coming off the foot of Fordham's Maria Lorena Canicatti. With about 18 seconds left, she blasted a shot from the left side to the far post, but the shot went wide and the clock ran out on both teams.
In net, Suther finished with six saves for her second shutout of the season, and the tenth of her career.
MULTI-GOAL GAMES: For the first time in 2009, the Rams have multiple players that have scored at least two goals in a game this season. Freshman Kristina Makusti pulled the feat in the first game of the season against Seton Hall, while junior Annie Worden turned the trick against Stony Brook. Mariella Romano joined the fray, netting two goals against Utah Valley.
Worden was also a part of the last time this happened in 2009, joining Michelle Ancelj and Leah Loguidice with multi-goal games.
MAKSUTI RANKED AMONG A-10 BEST BY TOPDRAWERSOCCER.COM: TopDrawerSoccer.com's latest player rankings among the conferences were released on Monday with Fordham freshman Kristina Maksuti rated as one of the league's top players. Every Monday, TopDrawerSoccer ranks the top 20 players in each conference.
Maksuti has led the Rams in scoring from the first game of the season, netting seven goals and three assists in just eight games. She also has one multi-goal game and three game-winning goals to her credit.
Maksuti's 17 points are already just six shy of the freshman scoring record at Fordham, which is 23, held by Sarah Hopkins, back in 2003.
On the national scene, she ranked 19th in the NCAA in points per game (2.13 ppg), 22nd in goals per game (0.875 gpg), and 22nd in game-winning goals (3).
