Women's Tennis Competes at Lehigh Invitational on Sunday

Bethlehem, Pa. - The Fordham women's tennis team was back in action on Sunday, competing against Delaware and St. Francis (Pa.) at the Lehigh Invitational in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. The Rams finished the day winning three of five singles matches, as well as five of six doubles contests.

Fordham's play began with doubles action against Delaware, picking up victories at first and second doubles. Fordham's Amy Simidian and Angelika Dabu began with an 8-4 win at first doubles over Dorothy Safron and Sophie Soiberg-Sundstrom, while Hanna Fritzinger and Bella Genkina defeated Kim Milla and Olivia Heim at second doubles, 8-6.

In singles play against Delaware, Fordham picked up victories at first, fourth and fifth singles, led by Simdian, who topped Safron, 6-2, 6-1, at the top spot. Fritzinger won at fourth singles over Amanda Halstrom, 6-0, 6-0, while Julie Leong defeated Olivia Heim, 6-2, 6-4, at fifth singles.

The Rams finished the day with an abbreviated doubles competition with St. Francis (Pa.), winning all three matches. Simidian and Dabu took down Deuyann Saraner, and Nuria Valls, 6-0, at first doubles with Fritzinger and Leong topping Alex Sachs and Lucy Jasso at second doubles, 6-1. Taylor Holt and Sarah Tremaine finished the sweep with a 6-3 win at third doubles over Camilia Diaz and Shivani Patel.

The Fordham women's tennis team will next be in action this week, as select members will compete at the 2011 ITA Regional hosted in New Haven, Connecticut.
