Fordham Men's Basketball Hosts Temple at IZOD Center on Wednesday at 7:00 PM

Bronx, N.Y. - The Fordham University men's basketball Rams will open their 2011 Atlantic 10 season on Wednesday night by hosting the Temple University Owls, three-time defending conference champions, in the IZOD Center at 7:00 p.m. The game will broadcast live on WFUV (90.7 FM) and on wfuv.org and will be shown live on the CBS College Sports Regional Network (Verizon FIOS in the NYC area). Plans also include video streaming the game live on www.fordhamsports.com (equipment permitting). See the links below to follow the game on you computer.

Game Notes

The Rams enter the game with a 6-6 overall record after falling to Santa Clara, 85-70, in the consolation game of the 44th annual Cable Car Classic in Santa Clara, California, on Thursday night. Temple enters the game with a 9-3 overall record after falling at #8 Villanova, 78-74, on Thursday.

Fordham will be guided into the game by first-year head coach Tom Pecora, who arrived at Rose Hill in March after nine successful seasons as the head coach at Hofstra where he averaged 20 wins during the past six years.

On the court, Fordham is led by sophomore Chris Gaston, a Union City, N.J. resident who played at St. Anthony High School and St. Benedict's High School, and senior Brenton Butler. Gaston has posted a double-double in nine of the first 12 games and is averaging 15.5 ppg and 12.6 rpg while Butler, who has scored more than 20 points in four of the past six games, is leading the team and is ranked sixth in the Atlantic 10, averaging 17.4 ppg. Junior guard Alberto Estwick. a product of St. Anthony High School, is averaging 12.5 ppg.

Wednesday's game will be the 50th meeting between the Rams and the Owls on the hardwood. Temple leads the all-time series, 36-13, including a 62-45 win in the Rose Hill Gym last year.
