The Rams enter the game with a 6-10 overall record, 0-4 in the conference, following a 68-55 Atlantic 10 loss to Saint Louis University last Wednesday in the IZOD Center. The Rams are looking to snap a six-game losing streak as well as a 30-game Atlantic 10 losing streak dating back to 2009. Dayton enters the game with an 14-5 overall record, 2-2 in the A-10, after an 81-76 conference loss at Xavier last Saturday.
Fordham will be guided into the game by first-year head coach Tom Pecora, who arrived at Rose Hill in March after nine successful seasons as the head coach at Hofstra where he averaged 20 wins during the past six years.
On the court, Fordham is led by senior Brenton Butler and sophomore Chris Gaston. Butler is leading the team and is ranked ninth in the Atlantic 10, averaging 15.3 ppg, and he also lead the squad with 62 assists. Gaston has posted a double-double in ten of the 15 games this year, including a 24-pointg, ten-rebound game against Saint Louis, and is averaging 15.1 ppg and 11.4 rpg. He leads the Atlantic 10 and is ranked fifth in the nation in rebounding.
The Dayton Series: Saturday's night's contest will be the 26th meeting between Fordham and Dayton on the hardwood. The Flyers lead the all-time series, which started in 1952-53, 20-5, and have won the past four match-ups, including a 74-58 win in Madison Square Garden on January 13th as Chris Wright scored 12 points and grabbed eleven rebounds and Luke Fabrizius added 13 points.
Snow, Snow, Go Away: People in New York no longer need to watch the local weather to find out when it's going to snow, they just need a Fordham men's basketball schedule. For chances are if the Rams are scheduled for a road trip, it will snow in New York.
The first occurrence came on December 26th when the Rams were slated to fly to Atlanta to play at Georgia Tech. That flight was canceled by the blizzard and Fordham had to bus to Pittsburgh to catch a flight to San Francisco.
On their first Atlantic 10 road trip, a bus ride to George Washington, the Rams left campus early to get out before another snowstorm hit the area.
After a relatively normal trip to Charlotte last weekend, the Rams saw their plans changed for the trip to Dayton on Friday as an impending snowstorm canceled the original Friday early afternoon flight. The Rams were able to catch a later flight on Friday, arriving at the hotel, where the temperature is in the single digits, at 10:00 PM.
