The Fordham track & field team's busy weekend concluded on Saturday at the Yale Collegiate Invitational in New Haven, Connecticut, where the Rams had two event wins, two ECAC/IC4A qualifiers, and 10 top five finishes. Four of the top five finishes came in the relay events.
Both event wins came in the women's competition, once again led by senior Kerri Gallagher. Gallagher won the 800 meter event in a season-best and ECAC qualifying time of 2:12.20. Gallagher has now qualified for the ECAC Championship in three different events in the last three meets (mile run, 1,000 meters, and 800 meters). Freshman Anisa Arsenault posted the other event win, taking home the mile run in 5:13.41.
The Fordham relay teams were the other highlight of the day, as each of the four Fordham relay teams placed no worse than third in their event. The men's distance medley relay team of Brian Schmidt, Christopher Lyons, John Cosgrove, and Kevin Fitzgerald took second place overall in an IC4A qualifying time of 10:03.06. The men's 4x400 relay (Sean Atkinson, Schmidt, Lyons, and Nick Delligatti) and the men's 4x800 relay (Brian Walter, Cosgrove, Michael Rossi, and Ryan Polo) both finished in third place in their respective event in 3:19.03 and 7:52.56.
The women's 4x400 relay also had a third place finish as Elisabeth Warren, Gallagher, Kelly Connolly, and Averie Sheppard posted a season-best time of 3:59.22. Connolly and Warren also had a strong showing in the 400 meter dash, as Connolly took fourth overall in a season-best time of 59.69 seconds, with Warren taking eighth in 1:01.30. In the men's 400 meters, Fordham also had a pair of top tens, as Atkinson was fifth overall in 50.15 seconds, while Michael Bongiorno was ninth in 50.96 seconds.
Other top finishers were Thomas Kelly, who was second in the 800 meters (1:58.20), Julian Saad, who was second in the 3,000 meter run (8:27.98), Diane Bain, who was seventh in the 800 meters (2:24.81), Jarrett Anistranski, who was seventh in the 800 meters (2:00.14), and Pat Brown, who was seventh in the weight throw with a mark of 49' 1 ½".
The Fordham track & field team will next be in action on Saturday, January 22nd, as the Rams compete at the Princeton Relays in Princeton, N.J.
