Track & Field Runs at the NYU Gotham Cup

New York, N.Y. - A busy weekend for the Fordham track & field team began on Friday at the NYU Gotham Cup, held at the Armory Track & Field Center in New York. The Rams posted three event wins, two ECAC/IC4A qualifying times, and eight season-best times to highlight the night.

Two of the three event wins came on the women's side, as both Kelly Connolly and Kerri Gallagher won an event. Connolly won the unseeded 800-meter run in a season-best time of 2:21.85, while Gallagher took home in the 1,000-meter run in an ECAC qualifying time of 2:49.49.

The Rams' other event win came in the men's pole vault, as Daniel Chediak cleared a season-best height of 14' 7 ¼". Chediak later posted the Rams' top time in the 60-meter hurdles, placing 10th in 8.64 seconds.

On top of Gallagher's ECAC qualifying time, Fordham also earned an IC4A qualifying time in the men's 4x800 relay, as the team of Sean Atkinson, Tim Hutchinson, Michael Rossi, and Brian Walter, placed second overall in a season-best time of 7:51.48.

The Rams also had three other season-best performances in the men's 400 meters, the seeded men's long jump, and the women's shot put. Brian Schmidt placed sixth in the 400 meters in a team-best time of 49.65 seconds, while Sam Houston was 12th overall in the seeded men's long jump with a season-best mark of 21' 7 ¼". Taylor Jacob has the final team-best mark of the night, as she was second in the women's shot put with a mark of 37' ½".

Other top men's performances included Ryan Polo, who was fourth in the 1,000 meters in 2:30.80, Augustus Gleason, who was third in the unseeded long jump with a mark of 19' 8", and Keegan Talty and Ken Baron, who finished second (14' 1 ¼") and third (13' 7 ¼") respectively in the pole vault.

On the women's side, Courtnay Newman placed fourth in the high jump, clearing 5' 3", while the 4x800 relay placed seventh overall (10:13.45) with the 4x400 relay squad placing ninth in 4:05.10.

The track & field teams will be right back in action on Saturday, January 15th, when they travel to the Yale Invitational in New Haven, Connecticut.
