The Rams enter the game with a 6-8 overall record, 0-2 in the conference, following a 72-52 Atlantic 10 loss to George Washington University last Wednesday in Washington, D.C. The Rams are looking to snap a four-game losing streak as well as a 28-game Atlantic 10 losing streak dating back to 2009. Charlotte enters the game with an 8-8 overall record, 0-2 in the A-10, after a 92-88 conference loss in triple overtime at St. Bonaventure last Saturday.
Fordham will be guided into the game by first-year head coach Tom Pecora, who arrived at Rose Hill in March after nine successful seasons as the head coach at Hofstra where he averaged 20 wins during the past six years.
On the court, Fordham is led by senior Brenton Butler and sophomore Chris Gaston. Butler, who has scored more than 20 points in four of the past eight games, is leading the team and is ranked ninth in the Atlantic 10, averaging 15.8 ppg, and he also lead the squad with 58 assists. Gaston has posted a double-double in nine of the 14 games this year and is averaging 14.9 ppg and 11.7 rpg. He leads the Atlantic 10 and is ranked third in the nation in rebounding.
The game will be the eighth meeting between Fordham and Charlotte on the hardwood. The 49ers lead the all-time series, 6-1, including a 77-71 win in the Rose Hill Gym last February.
