Fordham University freshman guard Abigail Corning (Wethersfield, Conn/Wethersfield) was selected as the Atlantic 10 Conference Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week, it was announced by the league office on Monday.
It is Corning's second career Atlantic 10 weekly award, she captured her first Rookie of the Week for the period ending on November 22, 2010.
Corning helped Fordham win their Atlantic 10 conference opener over La Salle on Saturday, 69-54. In the game, her offense was part of a 20-2 first-half run by the Rams that put the game out of reach.
The freshman guard scored 12 points in the victory, knocking down 3-of-5 from the field (.600), including 2-of-4 (.500) from behind the three-point line. She made all four of her free throw attempts and also dished out a team-best three assists. On the year, Corning is averaging 7.4 ppg (125 points) and is shooting 80% (28-of-35) from the foul line.
Corning and the rest of the Rams will look to improve on a 9-8 record on Wednesday, January 12th, when the team travels to Charlotte, North Carolina to face the Charlotte 49ers at 7:00 PM.
