Bronx, N.Y. -
The 2010-11 Fordham University men's basketball schedule was released today and it features a 16-game Atlantic 10 Conference schedule and 16 home games, four at the Izod Center. The home slate includes a game with St. John's University in the Rose Hill Gym while the Rams will also travel to Atlanta to face Georgia Tech.
The schedule is highlighted by an appearance by St. John's University in the Rose Hill Gym on Saturday, December 11th. It will mark the Red Storm's first game in the historic venue since December 23, 1995. It will be the 82nd meeting between the two teams. The 81 games played against St. John's is the fourth most against any opponent for Fordham, behind Manhattan (102), Army (83) and Holy Cross (83).
The schedule will also feature four appearances by the Rams at the Izod Center in East Rutherford, N.J., all Atlantic 10 contests. Fordham will host Temple University (January 5th), Saint Louis University (January 19th), Saint Joseph's University (February 13th) and the University of Rhode Island (February 26th) in the arena that has hosted the New Jersey Nets, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band and the 1996 NCAA Final Four. More than 58 million people have attended over 5,000 events at the IZOD Center since it opened in 1981.
The Rams will open their 107th season of basketball on Friday, November 12th, as they host Brown University in the Rose Hill Gym, the first of five straight and eight overall non-conference games in the building.
Ten of Fordham's 2010-11 opponents saw postseason action last year with four teams appearing in the NCAA Tournament: Xavier (a Sweet 16 team last year), Georgia Tech, Richmond, and Temple. Three others received bids to the NIT (Dayton, St. John's and Rhode Island, who advanced to the semifinals) and three appeared in the College Basketball Invitational (Duquesne, George Washington, Saint Louis).
Fordham's Atlantic 10 schedule includes home-and-home games with Temple (three-time defending Atlantic 10 champions), Rhode Island and St. Bonaventure, as well as a home dates with Saint Louis, Saint Joseph's and the Rhode Island at the Izod Center and Duquesne, and Massachusetts at the Rose Hill Gym. The Rams also play five Atlantic 10 schools on the road in 2010-11, traveling to Charlotte, the Dayton, George Washington, La Salle and Xavier.
The first round of the 2011 Atlantic 10 Championship will be played on Tuesday, March 8th, at the site of the higher seeded team and the championship will then move to Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City for the quarterfinals, semifinals and finals from March 11-13, 2010.
After opening the 2010-11 season with the Brown game, the Rams stay in the Rose Hill Gym for the next four games, hosting Sacred Heart University on November 15th, Hampton University on November 19th, Long Island University on November 23rd and the University of Hartford on November 27th.
After a trip to Cambridge, Mass., on December 1st for a contest with Harvard University, the Rams travel out to Bethlehem, Pa., to face Lehigh University on December 4th.
Fordham returns home on December 8th for the annual Battle of the Bronx with Manhattan College in the Rose Hill Gym at 7:00 p.m. It will be the 103rd meeting between the two Bronx schools.
After the St. John's game on December 11th, the Rams will have time off for first semester finals before hosting Kennesaw State University on December 22nd.

The Rams will take on American University in the first round before facing either the host school or the University of Delaware on day two.
Fordham will be guided into the season by first-year head coach Tom Pecora, who arrives at Fordham after nine years as the head coach at Hofstra University. On the court the Rams will be led by senior captain Brenton Butler, who averaged 16.5 ppg last winter, and sophomore forward Chris Gaston, the 2010 Atlantic 10 and Metropolitan Basketball Writer's Rookie of the Year, who averaged 18.0 ppg and 11.4 rpg in 2009-10, both team highs.
