Hofstra's Courtney Breen netted two goals, while Grace Hawkins had a goal and assist, as the Pride topped the Fordham Rams, 4-1, in the final game of the Hofstra Invitational in Hempstead, N.Y.
With the loss, Fordham falls to 3-2-0, while Hofstra improved to 2-1-0.
The first half was all in favor of Hofstra, as the Pride netted two goals and out shot the Rams, 7-0. Hofstra opened the scoring at the 21:08 mark, as Brooke Bendernagel hit a long pass down the right side to Laura Greene. Greene then ripped a shot that got through Fordham goalkeeper Rachel Suther's outstretched hands, hit the left post, and went into the net.
The Pride made it 2-0 on another long pass, as Dana Bergstrom knocked the ball to a streaking Grace Hawkins. Hawkins then collected the ball and got around a Fordham defender and scored on a shot inside the left post from 20 yards.
Hofstra continued to press in the second half, scoring 1:14 into the period off a corner kick, making it a 3-0 game. Bergstrom took the corner, finding Courtney Breen for the header goal in front of the net.
The Pride would hold Fordham without a true scoring chance until halfway through the second half, as off a cross Megan O'Conor chipped a shot over the right side of the net.
Fordham then cracked the scoreboard at the 82:49 mark on Kaitlin Abrams' first career goal. Kaitlyn Carballeira took an indirect kick from 25 yards out near the right sideline, and found Abrams for a header.
The Rams just missed making it a 3-2 game on another chance by O'Conor and she slid a shot toward the left side of goal, but Krista Thorn was able to corral the loose ball, keeping it a two-goal game.
Hofstra closed out the scoring in the 88th minute, as Breen netted her second goal of the contest of assists from Hawkins and Ruby Staplehurst.
In net, Suther made four saves in the loss for Fordham, while Morphitis and Thorn each played a half with Thorn making two saves for Hofstra.
Following the game, both Carballeira and Mary Solimine were named to the All-Tournament team.
The Fordham women's soccer team will next be in action on Friday, September 10th, as they play at Columbia, beginning at 7:00 PM.
