Newport News, Va. - Fordham University freshman defender Kaitlyn Carballeira (East Setauket, N.Y./Ward Melville) was named Atlantic 10 Women's Soccer Co-Rookie of the Week, it was announced today by the conference. This is Carballeira's first career Atlantic 10 weekly honor.

In her lone game of the week, Carballeira scored her first collegiate goal this past Sunday, netting the game-winner against Army in the eighth minute of action. The freshman defender was part of the Ram backline that held Army without a shot for the first 72 minutes of the game. It was only the second time in 11 matches this year that Army was held scoreless in a match.

With the win, Fordham snapped a six-match losing streak on the year, while it marked the first win for the Rams in eight all-time meetings against Army.

Overall, Carballeira has started all ten games at defender for the Rams, registering a goal and an assist for three points.

Carballeira and the rest of the Rams (4-6-0) will next be in action on Friday, October 1st, when they open Atlantic 10 play at Dayton, beginning at 7:30 PM.
