Bronx, N.Y. - The Fordham University women's tennis team opened the 2010 fall season on the Hawthorn/Rooney Courts on Wednesday and it was a successful collegiate debut for two Fordham freshman. Angelica Dabu and Hanna Fritzinger each won their first collegiate singles match and they teamed up to win at first doubles, but it wasn't enough as Fordham fell to NJIT, 4-3.

The Rams opened the match dropping the doubles point as the Highlanders took two of the three doubles matches. Angelica Dabu and Hanna Fritzinger took first doubles from Ksenia Kuzmenko and Nina Mayevska, 8-4, but Fordham's Bethany Boyle and Taylor Holt lost to Martina Tripcovici and Jana Luste at second doubles, 8-1, and Sarah Tremaine and Monika Chao dropped third doubles to Ana Lidon and Hannelore MacDonald, 8-6.

In singles play, Dabu and Fritzinger won at the first and second positions, respectively, in straight sets. Dabu defeated Kuzmenko, 6-2 and 6-4, while Fritzinger was victorious over Mayevska, 6-4 and 6-3.

The other singles win for the Rams came at the fourth spot as Tremaine lost the first set to Tripcovici, 6-0, but came back strong to take the second, 6-2 and the third, 6-1, for the win.

The Rams will next be in action on Friday, September 17th, as they begin play at the Quinnipiac Invitational. The tournament will run from Friday through Sunday.
