It's not often that it can be said that a 41-14 game was decided by a few plays but such was the case on Thursday night at West Point. The big plays were Army JV interceptions, two of which were returned for scores, as the Army JV upended the Fordham JV at Michie Stadium.

With a shortened roster, the Rams saw numerous players see action on both sides of the ball against an Army team with a full complement of players. The Black Knights got on the score board fast, taking the opening kickoff and used the option offense to move 65 yards on seven plays, scoring on an unexpected pass of 36 yards 3:41 into the game.

After the Rams went three-and-out on their first possession, being forced to punt from their own end zone, Army again mounted a quick scoring drive, covering 31 yards on four plays for A 14-0 lead with 8:21 left in the first.

The Fordham offense turned the ball over on a fumble on the next series, giving Army the ball on the Rams' 42. But the defense held strong, allowing the Black Knights to advance to the nine where they missed on a 26-yard field goal attempt. The big play came on third and four from the Fordham eight where Thomas Lloyd tackled the Army runner for a loss of a yard.

The Fordham offense fed off the defensive stop, taking over on the 20 following the missed field goal and advancing all the way to the Army seven where a Ben Heiser pass was intercepted on the one and returned 99 yards for the score. Langston Lacroix led the Fordham offense, gaining 43 yards on six carries.

The Rams couldn't get on track on the next offensive possession and Army took over on it own 25 following a punt. But six plays later, the Rams got the ball back when Ian Williams intercepted a pass at midfield.

The Rams couldn't take advantage of that turnover but Army gave the ball back to Fordham on the next series as Paul Barchitta recovered a Black Knight fumble on the Army 35. Fordham moved the ball to the 15 but on fourth down Ryan Higgins' pass was just off the fingertips of Andrew Spanarkel on the goal line.

Army then covered the 85 yards on six plays, scoring on a 10-yard pass, to take a 28-0 lead with 1:35 left in the half.

On the first possession of the second half, the Rams took the opening kickoff and drove 76 yards on 12 plays with James Avedesian hooking up with Williams on a 29-yard scoring strike on fourth down and then rushing for the two-point conversion as Fordham got the board, cutting the deficit to 28-8, 5:54 into the half.

William Horan then gave the ball back to the Rams, picking off an Army pass at the Fordham 13 and the Rams moved the ball from their own 13 to the Army 40 but on fourth down a Heiser pass was intercepted and returned to the Army 42.

Three plays later, Fordham got the ball back after a fumble recovery at midfield by George Apostolopoulos, who returned it to the Army two. After the Rams were called for a false start, James Avedesian covered the seven yards to pull the Rams to within 14, 28-14, with 12:23 remaining.

The defense held the Black Knights to a three-and-out and the Rams got the ball back on their own 28 following a punt. But Fordham couldn't move the ball and Army regained possession at its own 41. Six plays later, the Black Knights scored on a two-yard rush to take a 35-14 lead.

The Rams had one last chance to put some more points on the board but on the final play of the game Heiser was picked off on the Fordham 30 and Army brought it to the end zone for the 41-14 final.

The Fordham JV will next be in action on Sunday, September 19th as they travel to Columbia.
