The Fordham men's & women's track & field teams were both honored by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) today, as both squads were named to the Division I All-Academic Track & Field Teams for the 2010 season. A total of 224 teams, men and women combined, earned the distinction as a result of a cumulative team GPA of 3.0 or better.
With both track & field teams earning All-Academic honors, a total of five Fordham teams have earned team academic honors over the past few weeks, joining the volleyball (AVCA Team Academic Award) and men's and women's swimming & diving teams (CSCAA Scholar All-American Team).
The Fordham men's track & field team was one of two Atlantic 10 schools to earn All-Academic Team honors, along with Richmond. Of the 73 total men's teams, Fordham ranked fifth overall with a 3.33 team GPA. The only teams rated higher than Fordham were Lipscomb University (3.39), the University of San Francisco (3.38), the University of Tulsa (3.35), and Yale University (3.42).
The Fordham women's track & field team was one of eight Atlantic 10 schools to earn All-Academic status, by posting a 3.27 team GPA, which was tied for 65th overall out of 151 teams. Joining Fordham were Charlotte, Dayton, La Salle, Rhode Island, Richmond, Saint Louis, and Temple.
Only the Big East Conference had more women's teams earn All-Academic honors at 12 than the Atlantic 10, the Mid-American Conference, the Big Ten Conference, and the Big 12 Conference with eight.
