Fordham Swimming & Diving Teams Earn 2010 Scholar All-American Team Honors

July 29, 2010

Baltimore, Md. - The College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) has once again honored the Fordham men's and women's swimming & diving teams, naming the teams to the 2010 Scholar All-American Team. This is the seventh consecutive year that both squads have been on the Scholar All-American team.

Instituted during the 2003-04 academic year, the criteria for the Scholar All-American Team award is given to a team competing at the NCAA, NAIA, or junior college levels, and maintains a GPA of a 3.0 or better. The GPA includes all athletes who competed in any competition during the course of the season.

The Fordham women's team posted a 3.215 team GPA, ranking 87th overall, making them one of 128 schools, that were listed as a Scholar All-American Team, while the Fordham men's team's GPA of 3.189, ranked them in the top 25 (24th overall) out of the 60 schools that made the 3.0 minimum.

"This has been a team-oriented goal that our kids always strive for ever since the CSCAA instituted it," said head coach Steve Potsklan. "We are extremely proud of our student-athletes for the work they do not just in the pool, but in the classroom."

With the team academic honor for both squads, it caps off an incredible 2009-10 campaign for the Fordham swimming & diving program, as the women's team won their first Atlantic 10 Championship this past February, while the men's team tied their best-ever finish at the league championship, placing fourth overall.
