Women's Soccer Places Three on Preseason Atlantic 10 All-Conference Teams

July 27, 2010

Newport News, Va. - The Atlantic 10 Conference announced the 2010 Women's Soccer Preseason All-Conference and All-Rookie teams this afternoon as voted upon by the coaches. The Rams had three players honored, as senior midfielder Katie McDermott (Tucson, Ariz./Catalina Foothills) and sophomore forward Annie Worden (Silver Spring, Md./Montgomery Blair) were selected to the Preseason All-Conference team, while freshman forward Avilla Bergin (Derry, Ireland/Thornhill) was named to the Preseason All-Rookie Team.

McDermott, a 5-7 senior midfielder, receives preseason All-Conference honors for the third straight season. She was a 2009 First Team All-Atlantic 10 selection, after being a Second Team pick in each of her first two seasons. She was the first Fordham women's soccer player to earn All-Conference honors in her first three seasons. As a junior, she appeared in all 22 games, starting 20, and netted two goals and two assists for six points, as she earned team MVP honors.

Annie Worden

Worden, a 5-5 sophomore forward, was a 2009 Atlantic 10 All-Rookie team selection, after leading Fordham in goals (7) and points (16). Appearing in all 22 games as a freshman, she scored three game-winning goals, good for second on the team. This past June, she was listed as one of the top "Sophomores to Watch" in the Atlantic 10 for the 2010 season by TopDrawerSoccer.com.

Avilla Bergin (#9)

Bergin, a 5-6 freshman forward, brings a wealth of international experience to the Rams' squad , having played with the Northern Ireland National Team since U-13, and now finds herself on the senior squad competing this summer in the World Cup qualifying matches. She currently has four CAPS for the senior team. In 2009, Bergin was a member of the Coca-Cola Championship team and was the top goal scorer of the tournament. Bergin was also named Player of the Tournament in the Galway Cup. She competed in both the U-17 and U-19 team European Championships and was named Player of the Tournament for Northern Ireland (U-19).

The Fordham Women's Soccer team heads into their 18th season of varsity play in 2010, and will open at home on Sunday, August 22nd against Seton Hall University from the BIG EAST.
