Bronx, N.Y. -

The announcement of the 2014 Super Bowl coming to the New York area wasn't the only football related news to hit Manhattan recently. On Thursday, June 3rd, a window display for a play about Fordham University and NFL Hall of Famer Vince Lombardi was unveiled outside the Circle in the Square Theatre in Times Square announcing the upcoming show, Lombardi which will open in the fall.

The play is based on the best-selling biography of Vince Lombardi, When Pride Still Mattered: A Life of Vince Lombardi by Pulitzer Prize winning author David Maraniss that tells the story of the legendary coach and member of Fordham's famed Seven Blocks of Granite.

The show will open at the Circle in the Square Theatre in Times Square on Thursday, October 21, 2010 and is being produced by Tony Ponturo and Fran Kirmser, along with executive producer Nicole Kastrinos, and will be directed by Tony nominee Thomas Kail. Previews will begin Thursday, September 23, 2010, following a July 22-28 engagement at the Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center in Great Barrington, Massachusetts. Joining Ponturo and Kirmser as a special producing partner is the National Football League, marking the organization's first foray on Broadway.

Dan Lauria, who starred in the television series The Wonder Years, will play the lead role in Lombardi and the show will also feature Judith Light as Marie Lombardi, Keith Nobbs as Michael McCormick, Bill Dawes as Paul Hornung, Robert Christopher Riley as Dave Robinson and Chris Sullivan as Jim Taylor.

Fordham was well represented at the unveiling ceremony. The Rams contingent consisted of Frank McLaughlin, Fordham Director of Athletics, FCRH `71; John Cirillo, FCRH '74; Tom Masella, Head Football Coach; Joe Favorito, FCRH '85, Lombardi; and John Johnson, FCRH '02, Lombardi associate producer.
