Fordham University senior Stephanie Narduzzo (East Amherst, N.Y./East Amherst) was named Academic All-Atlantic 10 for women's rowing in a vote of the conference's sports information directors it was announced today. This is the second year that Narduzzo has been honored academically. Last year, she was named a National Scholar-Athletes by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA).
Narduzzo is a member of the Fordham varsity 8, a boat that placed fourth in the grand championship at the 2010 Atlantic 10 Championship on April 17th and the following week successfully defended its Spring Metropolitan Rowing Championships.
More recently, the varsity 8 placed fourth in the grand final at the ECAC Mid-Atlantic/New England Regional Championships last Saturday on the Cooper River.
The Fordham varsity 8 also won the petite final at the 2010 Knecht Cup and second in the petite final at the 2010 Murphy Cup. The boat also successfully defended its Fall Metropolitan title.
Last year's CRCA honor was the second straight for Narduzzo, who was also a member of the varsity 8 as a junior. In 2009, the varsity 8 won the 2008 Fall and the 2009 Spring Metropolitan Intercollegiate Rowing Association's Championship as well as placing fourth at the Jesuit Cup, fifth at the Murphy Cup and sixth at the 2009 Atlantic 10 Championship
At the 2009 Dad Vail Championships the varsity 8 won the second final as the Rams placed seventh overall at the prestigious regatta. The boat also took fourth at the 2009 ECAC Metro Championships, finishing ahead of A-10 foes Massachusetts in both their heat and in the championship race on the Cooper River on May 3rd.
The Rams will next be in action on May 7th and 8th as they travel to Philadelphia to compete in the 2010 Dad Vail Championship.
