Greensboro, N.C. - Fordham's Brigid Moriarty and Kerri Gallagher put their best foot forward on Thursday night at Irwin Belk Track in Greensboro, North Carolina at the 2010 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field East Regional in an effort to qualify for the 2010 NCAA Championship. This was the first time Fordham had two female athletes reach the NCAA Regional in the same season.
Gallagher was up first for Fordham in the 800-meter opening round competition. In order to advance, a runner had to finish in the top three in her heat or the next best six times overall outside those top thee finishers.
Heat two saw Gallagher take to the line for Fordham against runners from Middle Tennessee State, Boston College, Duke, LSU, Kent State, Dartmouth, and Duquesne. She finished sixth in her heat in a time of 2:09.68, which would put her 32nd overall by the end of all six heats, as the final qualifier for tomorrow's next round finished in 2:08.80. All five runners that finished ahead of Gallagher qualified for the next round of competition, showing that Gallagher was in one of the more talented heats.
Overall, her 32nd place finish put Gallagher ahead of runners from Dartmouth, Connecticut, UAB, Notre Dame, Michigan State, Miami (OH), Indiana, Harvard, Duquesne, Central Florida, Michigan, Jacksonville, and Florida Atlantic.
Moriarty closed out the day's competition, as she ran in the 10,000-meter event. Only the top 12 finishers out of the 48-competitor field would advance to next week's NCAA Championship.
