Fordham's Walker & Krakowiak Named to Atlantic 10 Baseball All-Conference Team

Newport News, Va. - The Atlantic 10 Conference announced the 2010 Baseball All-Conference Teams today, which saw two Fordham players selected among the league's best. Junior catcher Chris Walker (Bethpage, N.Y./St. Anthony's) was named First Team All-Atlantic 10, while junior starting pitcher Max Krakowiak (Westport, Conn./Staples) earned Second Team All-Atlantic 10 honors. This is the third time in the last four years that Fordham has had multiple All-Atlantic 10 selection.

Walker is the first Ram since Tom Davis and Rich Goulian in 2008 to earn First Team accolades. He had a breakout year as a junior, leading the team with career-highs in batting average (.358), hits (76), doubles (24), home runs (6), RBI (56), total bases (118), slugging percentage (.557). His 24 doubles broke the Fordham single season record of 21, set by Mike Marchiano in 1997, while his 56 RBI and 76 hits are currently the fourth-best single season total in school history. In the Atlantic 10, Walker finished the regular season second in doubles and tied for seventh in RBI.

Max Krakowiak was a 2010 Second Team All-Atlantic 10 selection.

In conference play, Walker hit .348 with a .616 slugging percentage, 25 runs scored, 12 doubles, six home runs, and 31 RBI.

Krakowiak also had an outstanding season as the Rams' top starting pitcher, having career-best numbers in earned run average (3.57), wins (7), complete games (3), innings pitched (95.2), strikeouts (66), and opponent batting average (.248). He finished the season as the conference leader in opponent batting average, second in E.R.A., fourth in innings pitched, fifth in wins, and sixth in complete games.

Conference play however was where Krakowiak was at his best, going 7-0 in nine starts with a 2.63 E.R.A, three complete games, and 49 strikeouts in 68.1 innings, while holding opponents to a .234 batting average.

Walker and Krakowiak lead the Fordham baseball team into this week's 2010 Atlantic 10 Championship at Campbell's Field in Camden, New Jersey. Fordham, the fourth seed, opens play on Wednesday against fifth-seeded Saint Louis, beginning at noon.
