Fordham's John Korevec Named 2010 Academic All-Atlantic 10 for Outdoor Track & Field

May 24, 2010

Bronx, N.Y. - Fordham University graduate student Brigid Moriarty (Manchester Center, Vt./Burr and Burton Seminary), junior Kerri Gallagher (Belle Harbor, N.Y./Bishop Kearney) and senior John Korevec (Neenah, Wisc./Xavier) were recognized for their athletic and academic accomplishments by being named to the 2010 Atlantic 10 Academic All-Conference Team for outdoor track and field in a vote by the conference's Sports Information Directors.

It is the third academic award this year for Moriarty, who was also named Academic All-Conference for cross country and indoor track, and she becomes the first female student-athlete (third overall) at Fordham to earn all three academic honors in the same season. Gallagher, who was named Academic All-Conference for indoor track, picks up her second Atlantic 10 academic accolade of the year and Korevec his first.

To be nominated for Academic All-Conference honors, a player must be a starter or important reserve and have a cumulative 3.0 gpa or better (on a 4.0 scale) for his/her entire academic career.

Korevec, an International Political Economy major, is a multiple-time member of the Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll. Competing for the Rams in the distance events, he had his best performance at the 2010 Atlantic 10 Outdoor Championship, scoring points for Fordham in the 3000-meter steeplechase event, an event Fordham had not scored in previously at A-10's. Korevec also placed third in the 3000m steeplechase at the 2010 Metropolitan Championships and won the event at the 2010 Monmouth Season Opener.

At the 2010 Block F Awards Dinner on May 6th, Korevec was the recipient of the John Kieran Award, presented to the Fordham College senior athlete who has made significant academic and athletic contributions. The award honors the memory of John Kieran, Fordham College Class of 1912, and a famous radio broadcaster, sports editor of the New York Times and a member of Baseball's Hall of Fame.
