Fordham Head Coach Bridget Orchard
Opening Statement:
“I think the biggest thing is that we were able to bounce back from from the first game we played today. We obviously played a hard game against Oklahoma and we lost that game 1-0. The way we were able to bounce back and score first, that really got our team up and motivated and I think taht was the key to the success in the second game. We got on them early, which is what we couldn’t do in the first game.”
On Maryland’s inability to score runs:
“We credit our pitcher Jen [Mineau] and our catcher Meghan [Shager]. We were able to handle our batters a little bit better today. They saw them yesterday so we were able to handle them in different ways.”
Sophomore pitcher Jen Mineau
On being able to pitch three-straight games:
“During the offseason we’ll throw around 700 pitches in a day just in our work outs, so that is the way I’ve been trained. That’s why we do it, for these kind of days.”
On the 1-0 game against Oklahoma earlier in the day:
“I feel like that game could have gone either way with any sort of timely hit or a mishap either here or there so I think we know exactly how our game is going to go tomorrow. It’s going to be very tight. And we’re going to have to get some timely hits.”
Junior thirdbaseman Jocelyn Dearborn
On getting a cushion with the double in the first inning:
“Staying out in front in any game is really important, but especially in these big games. Today it kept my team pumped. That’s my job as a lead off hitter.”
On remaining composure throughout the Regional, despite it being Fordham’s first time in a NCAA Championship:
“We’ve played big time teams, so we know what it takes to win. We’ve also beaten those teams so we’ve knocked off some top dogs in competition. This is natural for us.”
