Postgame Notes: Fordham 5, Maryland 2 (NCAA Regionals Game 5)

  • Fordham’s 5-2 victory over Maryland sends Fordham to the College Park Regional Final to face Oklahoma for the second time in two days. Fordham needs to win both games to advance to the Super Regional. In last weekend’s Atlantic 10 Championship, Massachusetts had to do the same thing against Fordham to earn the Atlantic 10’s automatic berth to the A10 Championship.
  • Fordham lost 1-0 to Oklahoma the last time the two teams met in Saturday’s noon game at the College Park Regional.
  • Sophomore Jen Mineau (34-8) pitched her third complete game for Fordham getting her 34th win of the season and 52 career wins. Mineau struck out the side for the 48th time against Maryland. Mineau has tallied 28 strikeouts in 21 innings pitched. Her ERA for the weekend so far is 1.33. She has allowed 16 hits for four runs. With 498 strikeouts, she is two away from 500, the second Atlantic 10 player to reach 500 K’s this season.
  • Jocelyn Dearborn recorded two doubles against Maryland for a season total of 14, tied with Jamie LaBovick for the team best. Dearborn has hit 43 overall during her career and is two doubles away from being the all-time career doubles leader. Fordham’s current all-time doubles leader is Allison Twarowski (2004-08) who has 44.
  • Erin Fisher walked for the 29th time this season, 97 for her career.
  • Beckah Wiggins’ two-RBI double in the third inning gave her 60 RBI for the season. Wiggins is now one RBI away from tying the Atlantic 10 single-season RBI record, set by Whitney Mollica from Massachusetts in 2006. Wiggins hasn’t batted in a run sinced she had four RBI against Charlotte on May 2 to break Fordham’s single-season RBI record with 58.
  • Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year Jamie LaBovick has 14 doubles for the season, a team best. She has 65 hits this season, and has cracked Fordham’s single-season top 10 list tying Melissa Andrews (2009) for No. 8.
  • Sophomore Nicole Callahan hit her first triple of the season and of her career. Callahan has stepped it up in the past two games, hittting 3-for-7 with an RBI.
  • So far in the tournament, Jamie LaBovick and Jocelyn Dearborn are Fordham’s leading batters. Both the rookie and the junior are batting .444 in the three games played against Maryland (twice) and Oklahoma. Both are 4-for-9 with two runs scored. Dearborn has two doubles and a home run for a slugging percentage of 1.000 and two RBI. LaBovick has one double.
  • Meghan Shager was 3-for-4 against Maryland.
