Ryan Coombs Named 2009-10 Men's Swimming MVP

May 19, 2010

Bronx, N.Y. - As the 2009-10 season begins to wind down, the Fordham University Athletic Department held its 76th annual Block F Awards Dinner at the Villa Barone Manor on May 6th to honor Fordham University's student-athletes for their accomplishments during the academic year.

Among those honored was senior Ryan Coombs, who was named the 2009-10 men's swimming most valuable player.

Coombs, a senior chemistry major, capped his career by earning his third straight Atlantic 10 Men's Swimming and Diving Academic All-Conference team (freshmen are not eligible for the award). This winter, he won the 200 butterfly at the 2010 Atlantic 10 Championships for the second straight year, garnering First Team All-Conference honors, and placed fourth in the 100 butterfly and seventh in the 50 free. Ryan was also a member of four relays that scored at A-10s, including the 400 medley relay which broke a school record with a time of 3:22.39, surpassing the old mark of 3:23.95 set last year and finishing in second place for Second Team All-Conference honors.

On the year, Ryan Coombs recorded Fordham's fastest 50, 100 and 200 butterfly times.
