Brian Schmidt Named 2009-10 Men's Indoor and 2010 Outdoor Men's Outdoor MVP

Bronx, N.Y. - As the 2009-10 season begins to wind down, the Fordham University Athletic Department held its 76th annual Block F Awards Dinner at the Villa Barone Manor on May 6th to honor Fordham University's student-athletes for their accomplishments during the academic year.

Among those honored was junior Brian Schmidt, who was named the 2009-10 men's indoor track and field most valuable performer and 2010 outdoor track and field most valuable performer.

During the indoor season, Schmidt was almost unbeatable, placing first as an individual in all but one race during the season. He won the 800 meters competition at the 2010 Atlantic 10 Indoor Championships in a conference record time of 1:52.86, to earn First Team All-Atlantic 10 honors. Schmidt was also a member of the 4x400 relay team that earned Second Team All-Atlantic 10 honors. He placed 23rd in the 800m at the 2010 IC4A Indoor Championships and took 16th at the event as part of the 4x400 relay.

Outdoors, Schmidt earned Second Team All-Atlantic 10 honors by taking second in the 800 meters at the Atlantic 10 championships in a season-best time of 1:51.83. He also was a member of the 4x800 relay that took third at A-10's. At the 2010 Metropolitan Outdoor Championships, Schmidt won the 800m in a then season-best time of 1:52.56.

Most recently, Schmidt was a member of the 4x800 relay that placed fourth at the 2010 IC4A Outdoor Championships at Princeton.
